Addressing social and gender norms is crucial to achieving sustainable change the field of family planning (FP) and reproductive health (RH). Deeply rooted norms often influence individuals’ access to services and decision making around their health and well-being. However, changing them requires a nuanced and context-specific approach. We have harvested insights from a series of Learning Circles events focused on addressing social and gender norms in social and behavior change (SBC) for FP/RH programming. A Collaborative Learning Experience Knowledge SUCCESS’s Learning Circles approach fostered an interactive environment where SBC practitioners exchanged insights and experiences related to FP/RH programming. Held virtually […]
Today the threat of zoonotic diseases like mpox, Ebola, and COVID-19 looms large. Understanding the human behaviors which influence spillover of diseases from animals and ongoing spread is an essential step toward addressing this problem. In Guinea, the risk is heightened by the presence of several endemic zoonotic diseases such as Lassa fever, anthrax, and rabies. Economic pressures and feelings of helplessness make adopting zoonotic disease prevention behaviors difficult. Strategic knowledge management can accelerate an evidence-based response to outbreaks. Health professionals can quickly collect crucial data if they are aware of tested tools and resources and know how to access […]
In Niger and around the world, health emergencies often exacerbate existing gender inequalities.[1] Women, especially in rural areas, frequently bear the brunt of these crises due to their caregiving roles and limited access to health information. Additionally, certain vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly, can be overlooked in emergency response strategies if risk communication and community engagement (RCCE) programs do not use gender-sensitive approaches. Recognizing this gap, Niger’s national leadership, including the Ministry of Public Health, Population and Social Affairs (MPHPSA), alongside regional actors in Niamey, Tahoua, and Zinder, prioritized gender equity and human rights in their health emergency […]
