SUMMARY:Audience Segmentation for Nutrition hybrid course (Live session 2)
DESCRIPTION:Social and behavior change (SBC) strategies are critical for addressing social and structural barriers\, and encouraging positive behaviors around nutrition. SBC can foster increased utilization of health services\, improved client-provider interactions\, and improved dietary diversity\, among other outcomes. \nTo increase the effectiveness of SBC strategies\, program planners must understand the intended audience(s) and the factors driving their behavior. Audience segmentation is a technique that divides a population into groups with similar characteristics related to a topic or behavior of interest\, enabling a deeper understanding of the demographic factors\, norms\, and attitudes that enable or inhibit positive behavior change among each group. The use of audience segmentation can help SBC practitioners develop interventions tailored to each group’s particular characteristics and needs. \nThis hybrid course is intended for use by SBC and service delivery professionals seeking to encourage positive nutrition behavior change by employing segmentation based on needs\, attitudes\, and behaviors of intended audience(s). \nLive session 1: Tuesday\, March 26\, 2024 – 9:00-10:30 am ET \n\nAudience Segmentation for Nutrition

SUMMARY:Know\, Care\, Do hybrid course (Live session 2)
DESCRIPTION:Engaging men and boys in family planning (FP) and sexual and reproductive health (SRH) can improve their own lives and those of their intimate partners\, families\, and communities. Evidence shows that engaging men and boys in FP/SRH programs decreases unintended pregnancy\, improves maternal health\, reduces sexually transmitted infections such as HIV/AIDS\, and advances gender equality (see Materials tab for references). Though progress has been made to engage men and boys more effectively in FP/SRH programs\, most programs continue to do so in incomplete ways. \nThis hybrid course is intended for program implementers who are working to increase and improve the engagement of men and boys in FP programs and services. A selected cohort of participants will deepen their understanding of what engaging men and boys in FP means and how programs and services can engage them in supportive\, affirming\, and gender-equitable ways. \nLive session 2 \nTuesday\, March 26\, 2024 \n7:00–9:00 am ET \nhttps://learning.breakthroughactionandresearch.org/courses/know-care-do/

SUMMARY:Showcasing the power of cognitive behavioral therapy at the intersection of mental health and family planning
DESCRIPTION:Postpartum depression impacts the health and well-being of new mothers\, their infants\, and their families and has a significant influence on family planning (FP) intentions. While depression and anxiety symptoms are associated with increased unmet need for FP and low contraceptive use postpartum\, solutions promoting the integration of mental health into maternal\, newborn\, and child health services are scarce. \nJoin Breakthrough ACTION to discuss promising results from a randomized controlled trial conducted in Ethiopia\, demonstrating how cognitive behavioral therapy improved postpartum mental health and supported women in realizing their reproductive health intentions with implications more broadly for maternal\, newborn\, and child health services\, of which postpartum FP is a critical component. \nREGISTER TO JOIN

SUMMARY:Reducing Gender Inequities to Improve Very Young Adolescents’ Health and Well-being Across the Life Course
DESCRIPTION:Gender inequities are key determinants of health among adolescents and adults\, particularly related to reproductive health\, gender-based violence\, and mental health. These inequities are shaped by gender norms and social expectations placed on boys and girls from a young age. \nIn particular\, very young adolescence (10–14 years old) is a time when societal gender norms start to be internalized; therefore\, intervening at this stage has great potential to reduce gender inequities and improve health and wellbeing throughout the life course. \nDuring this webinar\, presenters will discuss the effects of gender norms in very young adolescence and share an adaptable package of interventions that reaches key systems and influencers in very young adolescents’ environment—such as caregivers\, schools\, community leaders and members\, and government leaders—to reduce gender-based bullying and improve mental health outcomes. This package can be adapted to improve other aspects of very young adolescents’ health and well-being and implemented in other contexts. \nRegister to join the webinar! \nWatch the video below to learn more about this package of interventions!

SUMMARY:Social and Behavior Change for Sexual and Reproductive Health Service Delivery hybrid course (Live session 2)
DESCRIPTION:Applying social and behavior change (SBC) approaches and techniques to service delivery efforts can motivate clients to access services\, improve client-provider interactions\, and boost adoption and maintenance of healthy behaviors. It can improve health outcomes by helping providers enhance the quality of community engagement and dialogue; client education and health promotion; and counseling and shared decision-making. SBC approaches can improve clients’ overall experience of care\, which may result in increased satisfaction with health care delivery\, improved trust in health care providers and the health system\, and improved health seeking or maintenance behaviors. \nThis hybrid course enables SBC practitioners to learn more about how SBC can be integrated into sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services to improve acceptability\, access\, quality\, and outcomes. A selected cohort of participants will gain a deeper understanding of how to integrate SBC into their work and summarize how and where SBC can be used at each stage of the service continuum\, that is\, before\, during\, and after a client receives services. \nLive session 2: Thursday\, December 7\, 2023 – 8:00-9:30 am ET \n\nSocial and Behavior Change for Sexual and Reproductive Health Service Delivery \n\n

SUMMARY:Applying Human-Centered Design to Improve Nutrition Programming hybrid course (Live session 2)
DESCRIPTION:Human-centered design is a way of thinking that places both the people that programs serve and related stakeholders at the center of the design and implementation process. With emphasis on research\, ideation\, iteration\, and prototyping\, this process seeks to achieve novel solutions to complex problems. While there are many different HCD processes\, all of them\, at their core\, are rooted in empathy: a comprehensive understanding of the stakeholder(s) involved in the challenge at hand. This hybrid course enables SBC and nutrition practitioners to learn more about how to use HCD to address nutrition-related behavioral challenges. A selected cohort of participants will gain a deeper understanding of how HCD can add value to their work and access a set of practical tools that they can immediately put to use to develop\, support and refine nutrition programs. \nLive session 2: Wednesday\, November 15\, 2023 – 8:30-10:30 am ET \n\nApplying Human-Centered Design to Improve Nutrition Programming

SUMMARY:Malaria Segmentation hybrid course (Live session 2)
DESCRIPTION:Social and behavior change (SBC) strategies are critical for encouraging positive behaviors and addressing social and structural barriers around malaria prevention and case management. SBC can foster increased uptake of antimalarials\, improved provider-client interactions\, and the proper diagnosis and treatment for malaria. To increase the effectiveness of SBC strategies\, it is key to understand the target audience(s) of the SBC strategies and the factors driving their behavior. Audience segmentation is a technique that divides a population into groups with similar characteristics related to a topic or behavior of interest\, enabling a deeper understanding of the demographic factors\, norms\, and attitudes that drive malaria-related behavior. The use of audience segmentation can help SBC practitioners develop interventions and messages tailored to each group’s particular characteristics and needs. \nThis hybrid course enables SBC and malaria practitioners to increase their familiarity with the principles of audience segmentation and the understanding of how segmentation analysis can be utilized to develop\, support\, and improve malaria SBC interventions. A selected cohort of participants will learn about how they can adapt solutions developed from an existing segmentation analysis to their context. \nLive session 2: Tuesday\, October 31\, 2023 – 9:00-10:30 am ET \nhttps://learning.breakthroughactionandresearch.org/courses/audience-segmentation-malaria/
