SUMMARY:Reproductive Health Innovation Exchange Virtual Event
DESCRIPTION:Breakthrough ACTION is hosting the Reproductive Health Innovation Exchange online on August 10\, 2022\, to highlight breakthrough\, interactive solutions that use social and behavior change to improve service delivery. This online event will provide attendees with opportunities to explore\, ask questions\, and discuss practical applications of impactful social and behavior change for family planning (FP) and reproductive health service delivery activities. \nThis online event will feature 16 innovative solutions aimed at improving family planning service delivery. See table below for the titles and descriptions. \nHow can you participate? \nRegister here to join this online event. \nL’interprétation en français sera disponible. Voir plus d’informations en français et s’inscrire ici. \nWhen will the exchange take place? \nThis event will take place on Wednesday\, August 10\, 2022\, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. (ET).  \nHave questions? \nIf you have additional questions\, please contact Ely McElwee. \nFeatured Innovations: \n\n\n\nInnovation\n\n\nIntegrating FP and Immunization Services \nIntraHealth International and ideas42 developed a solution set to improve integration of FP and immunization services. The solution set includes an interactive mobile training course for providers via interactive voice response\, a series of referral cards tied to the baby’s age\, and a mobile health drama for families.\n\n\nNivi: The Digital Health Marketplace \nNivi’s marketplace is where organizations connect with and serve consumers. Nivi generates awareness\, service and product referrals\, and consumer demand insights for health education organizations\, public and private service providers\, healthcare payers\, manufacturers\, and other supply chain stakeholders.\n\n\nMa’ana Fe Al-Dawar: Community Plays for FP Conversations \nThe initiative targeted population segments with FP and reproductive health messages through a series of short plays that featured youth from the community to prioritize FP messages for youth and the community at large.\n\n\nTradgame 4 Adolescents and Young Women: FP and Sexual and Reproductive Health \nThe project mobilized adolescents\, girls\, and young women from tertiary institutions and the Gokwe community to play traditional games on teams with health service providers. Participation in games creates an ideal platform for FP and reproductive health service provision as well as interaction\, counseling\, and information sharing to counter misinformation.\n\n\nBehavioral and Digital Tools to Prevent Teenage Pregnancy \nRoots of Health and AHA! pioneered behavioral solutions through applying behavioral design principles to targeted adolescent segments. With the insights gathered\, they were able to design (1) digital prototypes to help facilitate conversations on condom use for males and (2) physical prototypes to help the target segment decide on what contraceptive fits them and how to bring up consent in conversations with their partners.\n\n\nLa Chance: Interactive Game for Girls to Take Control of Their Reproductive Futures \nideas42 and Pathfinder International designed a board game\, La Chance\, for high school students where girls encounter real-life relationship scenarios and “experience” consequences to correct misconceptions and increase pregnancy-risk perception through simulated decision-making.\n\n\nClub Courage for Midwives: Building Resiliency through Peer Support \nClub Courage is a simple\, low-cost intervention derived from insights gathered through a human-centered design process involving midwives and pregnant women. The project enables midwives to discuss and address stress and trauma and mutually support each other.\n\n\nGamified FP Counseling Tools to Promote Meaningful Choice \nBreakthrough ACTION designed an interactive\, gamified counseling tool with referral cards that uses a colorful die to select which FP method to discuss randomly\, debunks misconceptions and myths about FP methods\, and helps interested FP users choose a method that meets their needs.\n\n\nEmpathways: Building Empathy into Youth FP Services \nEmpathways is a three-round card deck of discussion prompts and reflection questions designed to increase family planning provider empathy for young clients\, catalyzing more youth-centered family planning and contraceptive services.\n\n\nProvider Behavior Change: A Toolkit \nThe Provider Behavior Change FP toolkit is a set of tools designed to support the design\, implementation\, and evaluation of effective facility-based provider behavior change initiatives within FP and reproductive health programs.\n\n\nTogether We Decide: Interactive Game for Male Engagement in FP \nIntraHealth International and ideas42 developed “Together We Decide\,” an interactive game that creates a safe space for players to discuss child spacing with peers by allowing players to “experience” the consequences of choices about child spacing and contraceptive use\, build familiarity with contraceptive methods\, and envision conversations about FP with their partners and health workers.\n\n\nMobiSAfAIDS App for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Advocacy \nMobiSAfAIDS App is a social accountability monitoring tool that offers real-time evidence generation\, translated into policy advocacy actions led by adolescents and young people as agents of their reproductive health agenda at the local\, national\, and regional levels.\n\n\nGrowing Up: Film Based Interactive Learning \nMedical Aid Films developed an interactive resource for developing peer educators\, young leaders\, or participants in adolescent health programs based on our film\, Growing Up.\n\n\nZanaAfrica’s Nia Program: Sexual and Reproductive Health and Life Skills Education through Comics and Magazines \nZanaAfrica delivers a proven intervention of rights-based reproductive health and life skills education delivered through engaging social and behavior change content in the form of comics and magazines\, paired with sanitary pads and underpants\, to adolescent girls and boys.\n\n\nBehavioral Tools for Providers to Promote Birth Spacing \nideas42 and Pathfinder International developed a solution package that reinforces the value of contraceptives in the postpartum period and helps women follow through if they intend to use contraceptives. The final solution package includes a planning prompt for women and their providers\, a risk assessment referral card used by providers\, a counseling sheet to guide providers\, and a tracking log for providers.\n\n\nResources to Confront the Concerns of Long-Acting Reversible Contraception Users \nThis Marie Stopes Uganda and ideas42 project used behavior design to create a solution set comprised of the FP Facts Flipchart\, referral cards\, and the side effects response tool. The FP Facts Flipchart and Side Effects Response tool allow community mobilizers to give long-acting reversible contraception users satisfactory responses that assuage their fears about side effects.

SUMMARY:SBC for Service Delivery Community of Practice: Welcoming New Members and Looking Ahead
DESCRIPTION:Since 2019\, the Social and Behavior Change for Service Delivery Community of Practice has brought together professionals committed to improving the practice of integrating social and behavior change (SBC) across the reproductive health service continuum. Members have the opportunity to overcome the silos that separate SBC and service delivery professionals and be on the cutting edge of thinking to expand the impact of SBC for reproductive health service delivery programs. Together\, the group has developed a shared agenda outlining priorities and commitments\, implementation guidance for the Circle of Care Model\, an indicator bank for measuring SBC for service delivery activities\, and several other knowledge products. \nDuring our next meeting\, we will welcome new members and align our priorities moving forward by focusing on the following questions: \n\nWhat have we accomplished?\nWhat gaps remain?\nWhere are we best placed to advance the field of SBC for reproductive health service delivery in the years ahead?\nWhat priorities should we add\, keep\, change\, or remove from our shared agenda?\n\nWe are inviting everyone who is interested in the intersection of SBC and reproductive health service delivery to attend —from those who have been members since 2019 to those who are just hearing of this group for the first time. If you are not already a member of the community of practice and would like to become one\, you can sign up online. You do not need to be a member to attend this meeting.

SUMMARY:Virtual Leadership in Strategic Communication Workshop
DESCRIPTION:For the first time\, the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs’ Leadership in Strategic Communication Workshop is going virtual. \nFrom June 6 to 17\, professionals working in social and behavior change around the world will have the opportunity to learn from the same distinguished faculty and staff who lead the in-person workshop but\, this time\, from the safety and comfort of a location of their choosing. \nPrevious workshops were delayed due to COVID and\, while travel restrictions are easing\, international travel may still not be possible for all. The virtual format will allow participation from anywhere with an internet connection. Classes will be held for four hours every day with separate group work. \nJust as with the in-person event\, participants will walk away with the ability to design and implement evidence-based tools and approaches and measure and evaluate program results. Innovations in project and crisis management and leadership will also be shared. \n“We’ve adapted our flagship workshop to fit the virtual space while maintaining our core emphasis on learning by doing\,” says Arzum Ciloglu\, MPH\, DrPH\, CCP’s director of capacity strengthening. “The workshop will focus on the essential knowledge and skills needed for the development of strategic communication programs in the age of COVID-19\, incorporating lessons learned about the role of leadership and the real-time\, dynamic nature of our work.” \nCiloglu says the virtual program is for both US-based and international public health professionals who may be new to the field as well as mid-level or senior professionals who might want a refresher on the basics of designing social and behavior change interventions. \nThe deadline for applications is May 2. If you have additional questions\, please contact Apral Smith at apralsmith@jhu.edu. The cost of the program is $2\,500.

SUMMARY:How Can SBC Programming Address Equity and Social Determinants of Health Considerations in FP/RH?
DESCRIPTION:En français ci-dessous \n \nWEBINAR\nApril 26\, 2022\n9:00–10:00 a.m. (EDT) \n\n  \nFamily planning (FP) remains susceptible to inequities\, and these inequities hinder access to FP information\, services\, and methods for women\, men\, and other gender-diverse people across socioeconomic statuses. Addressing social determinants of health is a primary approach to achieving health equity. If service providers and programs do not adequately consider and address the social determinants of health\, individuals\, couples\, and families will not be able to anticipate and attain their desired number of children and the spacing and timing of their births. \nThis webinar will focus on how social and behavior change (SBC) programming is well suited to addressing equity and social determinants of health in the FP/RH arena. It will also explore how to apply these to efforts for social and structural change pertaining to contraceptive autonomy and reproductive empowerment. Presentations feature the voices and experiences of global researchers and practitioners based in Kenya\, Nigeria\, and South Africa. \nThe webinar will be offered in English with simultaneous interpretation into French.

SUMMARY:Winner’s Showcase: 10 Lives\, 10 Stories\, One Message
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER TO PARTICIPATE \nIn some parts of the world\, youth\, women\, and families want to access family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH) services but cannot because they face barriers such as discrimination by providers\, skepticism due to misinformation about side effects\, and a lack of partner and family consent. Furthermore\, youth are not sure where to get accurate information and may now know which of the adults and peers in their lives they can trust to help them. In 2021\, Breakthrough ACTION launched the 10 Lives\, 10 Stories\, One Message competition and selected 10 winners that implemented social and behavior change (SBC) projects to dismantle the social barriers youth\, women\, and families face when seeking FP/RH services. \nJoin us on Wednesday\, December 15\, from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. EST to see how the winning organizations helped improve access to FP through the power of SBC programming. A series of short and impactful videos will showcase the success of these organizations in engaging men and elevating the voices of girls and boys to advocate for their RH. Each winning organization will also participate in a panel discussion to provide additional insight into their work. \nREGISTER TO PARTICIPATE

SUMMARY:Malaria SBC Evidence Discussion Webinar: Social Group and Provider Behavior Change to Increase Demand for Malaria Rapid Diagnostic Tests
DESCRIPTION:How can research findings inform and improve social and behavior change (SBC) programs? What questions can SBC practitioners keep in mind to help sift through research\, interpret publications\, and apply lessons learned? Join Breakthrough ACTION for the sixth in a series of online guided discussions following a journal club format about malaria SBC evidence on Wednesday\, May 5\, from 9:00 a.m. to 10 a.m. (EDT). More information about the article and how you can prepare for and participate in the online discussion is found below. \nABOUT THE ARTICLE \nWhile the World Health Organization recommends all persons with suspected malaria receive diagnostic testing with microscopy or a rapid diagnostic test (RDT)\, presumptive treatment remains a common practice. In the article Social group and health-care provider interventions to increase the demand for malaria rapid diagnostic tests among community members in Ebonyi state\, Nigeria: a cluster-randomised controlled trial\, an intervention-control study with a before-after assessment was used to measure the impact of SBC on factors related to the demand for RDTs. Dr. Omale will begin with a brief description of the methods used to measure and compare the effect of social group SBC with and without service provider SBC on RDT-related outcomes. Participants will be invited to discuss results and implications for future SBC programming\, data collection\, and data use. \nMODERATORS \n\nDonald Dickerson\, U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI)\, U.S. Agency for International Development\nMichael Toso\, Breakthrough ACTION\, Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs\n\nFEATURED PRESENTER\n\nDr. Ugwu I. SUMMARY:Generating Demand: Ways to Build Acceptance for COVID-19 Vaccines
DESCRIPTION:As of March 31\, the international COVAX facility has shipped over 32 million COVID-19 vaccines to more than 70 countries. As the global collaboration intends to ship millions of more vaccines in the coming months\, country-level public health officials must begin conducting social and behavior change (SBC) campaigns to promote the vaccine. Vaccines are one of the most effective public health measures to protect people from COVID-19 infection and to help return the world to normal. This makes a successful roll-out of COVID-19 vaccines a vitally important activity. \nThis live webinar and question and answer (Q&A) session will explore ways to design an SBC campaign – including building vaccine acceptance and mitigating vaccine hesitancy. Expert presenters will provide a background into vaccine hesitancy and vaccine communication\, overview currently available COVID-19 vaccine materials and resources and provide lessons learned from previous vaccine campaigns that can be used to strengthen COVID-19 vaccine communication. \nEXPERT PRESENTERS: \nRupali Limaye\, Ph.D.\, Associate Scientist\, Director of Behavioral and Implementation Science at the International Vaccine Access Center\, Johns Hopkins University\nDeepa Pokharel\, Communication for Development Specialist\, UNICEF – Health Section\, New York Headquarters\nSamuel Usman\, Secretariat Director-Chief of Party\, CORE Group Partners Project Nigeria Program \nFormat: This Springboard event will be a live webinar on the event page with Zoom integration (Zoom details to come). SUMMARY:Is Timing Everything? Considering the Do's and Don'ts for Engaging Men and Boys Across their Life Course
DESCRIPTION:Interventions aiming to meaningfully engage men and boys in understanding and transforming their relationships with their health and well-being often focus on important life events and transitions (e.g.\, sexual initiation\, graduations\, birth of first child). Yet the theoretical underpinning of why transitions are a strong moment for intervention is seldom emphasized in the literature. This session will use the Do’s and Don’ts for Engaging Men and Boys and recent interventions in Bangladesh and Zambia to showcase good practices and lessons learned for meaningful engagement in health programming (e.g.\, COVID-19\, gender-based violence\, integrated health) at critical and sensitive points in their lives and their contexts. It will then apply a life course lens to these interventions to further examine the gendered realities of men and boys in different life stages—infancy and childhood\, adolescence\, and adulthood—and identify implications for enhancing programming impacting men and boys’ health and well-being. \nThe webinar will be offered in English. Captions will be available in 18 languages. \nMODERATOR \n\n\n\nDominick Shattuck\, Director of Monitoring\, Evaluation\, and Learning\, Breakthrough ACTION\, Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs\n\n\n\nSPEAKERS \n\n\n\nFaisal Mahmud\, Deputy Chief of Party and Social and Behavior Change and Communication Advisor\, Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs – Bangladesh\nRuchita Pillai\, Monitoring and Evaluation Advisor\, Breakthrough ACTION\, Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs\nJeffrey Edmeades\, Founder\, Demografix\n\n\n\nRegister to join the webinar \nSelect the meeting on January 28\, 2021\, 07:00AM – Central Time (US and Canada) and change to your time zone as needed.

SUMMARY:Advancing Integrated Social and Behavior Change and Provider Behavior Change Programming: Exploration of the research and learning agendas
DESCRIPTION:Please join Breakthrough RESEARCH and partners for a presentation and dialogue on developing and socializing two research and learning agendas to help enhance provider behavior change and integrated social and behavior change (SBC) programming. \nTremendous strides have been made in SBC programming to improve health outcomes among populations; yet knowledge gaps remain across health and development sectors. Breakthrough RESEARCH\, with input from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implementing partners\, has developed research and learning agendas (RLAs) to inform two important areas of SBC programming: (1) improving the knowledge\, attitudes\, and behaviors of health care providers toward their clients and (2) enhancing the integration of multiple health or development issues under the same SBC program. \nAdditionally\, Breakthrough RESEARCH in collaboration with FHI 360 and Pathfinder International has developed two “Research Spotlights” highlighting implementing partners’ research activities related to the priority questions identified in the RLAs. The webinar will briefly describe the RLAs and take the audience through the process of developing the Research Spotlights and solicit feedback to enhance the uptake and use of these products. \nPresenters:\nSanyukta Mathur\, Population Council\nKrista Granger\, Population Council\nKara E. Tureski\, FHI 360\nPrisca Rwezahura\, USAID Tulonge Afya\nLydia Murithi\, Pathfinder International \nTo facilitate a more streamlined presentation and discussion\, please view this slidedeck (https://breakthroughactionandresearch.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/BR_RLA_Overview.pdf) describing the process of developing the RLAs for integrated SBC programming and provider behavior change programming. This process will not be covered in detail during the webinar.

SUMMARY:Malaria—Insights for improving malaria\, FP\, and MCH outcomes in northwestern Nigeria through SBC programming
DESCRIPTION:PHOTO CREDIT: Arne Hoel/World Bank (CC BY-NC-ND 2.0; No modifications made)\n  \nIn this webinar\, Breakthrough RESEARCH will share findings from its work in northwestern Nigeria related to malaria. We will present new ideational metrics collected and discuss how these metrics are associated with malaria prevention and treatment behaviors. Breakthrough ACTION will present key program design to address malaria prevention and treatment and the programmatic implications of the research. \nBreakthrough RESEARCH is USAID’s flagship project for social and behavior change (SBC) research and evaluation\, led by the Population Council. In Nigeria\, Breakthrough RESEARCH is evaluating the effectiveness of Breakthrough ACTION’s integrated versus malaria-only SBC programming on priority malaria\, family planning\, and maternal\, newborn\, and child health and nutrition (MNCH+N) outcomes. \nA behavioral sentinel surveillance (BSS) baseline survey was conducted in September 2019\, with a midline and endline survey planned. The BSS survey measures changes in key behaviors and ideations (e.g.\, norms\, beliefs\, self-efficacy) across malaria\, family planning\, and MNCH+N to inform Breakthrough ACTION’s program adaption and scale-up over the course of the project. \n  \nPresenters: \nDele Abegunde\, Breakthrough RESEARCH Nigeria\, Population Council \nTemitope Ogunbi\, Breakthrough ACTION Nigeria\, Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs \nEmily White Johansson\, Breakthrough RESEARCH Nigeria\, Tulane University \nPaul Hutchinson\, Breakthrough RESEARCH\, Tulane University \n  \nThis webinar series began in June\, and over the past few months\, we have shared results from other health areas including vaccination\, breastfeeding and pregnancy/childbirth. If you were unable to join us\, these webinars are available on the Breakthrough RESEARCH Nigeria BSS YouTube playlist. These webinars highlight results from analyses of the relationships between ideations and behavioral outcomes and link the evidence to implications for Breakthrough ACTION programming in Nigeria. Upcoming webinars will focus on family planning and inequalities.

SUMMARY:Insights for improving malaria\, family planning\, and maternal and child health outcomes in northwestern Nigeria through social and behavior change programming
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER\nJoin us for a webinar on 11 June to hear about baseline findings on key behaviors and ideations in the areas of malaria\, family planning\, and maternal\, newborn\, and child health plus nutrition (MNCH+N) from a behavioral sentinel surveillance (BSS) survey conducted in northwestern Nigeria. \nBreakthrough RESEARCH is USAID’s flagship project for social and behavior change (SBC) research and evaluation. In Nigeria\, Breakthrough RESEARCH is evaluating the effectiveness of Breakthrough ACTION’S integrated versus malaria-only SBC programming on priority malaria\, family planning and MNCH+N outcomes. Breakthrough RESEARCH will leverage natural program variation for the assessment. \nA BSS baseline survey was conducted in September 2019\, with a midline and endline survey planned for the same time in the coming years. The BSS survey measures changes in key behaviors and ideations across malaria\, family planning\, and MNCH+N to inform Breakthrough ACTION’s program adaption and scale-up over the course of the project. \nIn this presentation\, we will describe the BSS objectives and methods\, and highlight key BSS baseline survey findings across health areas. New ideational metrics will be reviewed that were collected for pregnancy and childbirth\, breastfeeding\, vaccination\, and childhood illnesses. We will discuss how these metrics were developed and adapted for the northwestern Nigerian context. We will also highlight results from analyses of the relationships between ideations and behavioral outcomes across health areas\, and link the evidence to implications for Breakthrough ACTION programming in Nigeria. \nPresenters: \nDele Abegunde\, Breakthrough RESEARCH Nigeria\, Population Council \nIan Tweedie\, Breakthrough ACTION Nigeria\, Johns Hopkins Center for Communications Project \nPaul Hutchinson\, Breakthrough RESEARCH\, Tulane University \nEmily White Johansson\, Breakthrough RESEARCH Nigeria\, Tulane University

SUMMARY:Increasing Coordinated Investment in SBC for FP Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Despite a major coalescence around the Family Planning 2020 and Ouagadougou Partnership goals in the last five years\, there has been a lack of understanding of how major stakeholders fund and implement SBC programming to meet those goals or what future investment priorities should be. Furthermore\, SBC is not yet anchored as a core element of major development organizations’ family planning strategies and programming or government planning mechanisms. Investment is insufficient\, particularly at the country level\, to support the implementation of SBC as a proven intervention to achieve global and country-level family planning targets. A targeted effort is needed to build awareness and prioritize SBC as an integral component of family planning strategies and to provide sufficient resources and supportive policies to enable country investment and encourage peer adoption. This webinar will share tools and experiences in advocating for SBC investments and initiatives to increase the coordination of resources. \nModerator\n\nHope Hempstone\, USAID\n\nPresenters\n\nMichelle Weinberger\, Breakthrough RESEARCH\nUttara Bharath\, Breakthrough ACTION\nSohail Agha and Perri Sutton\, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation \nPranab Rajbhandari\, Breakthrough ACTION Nepal\n\nFeatured Presentations\nMaking the Business Case for Investing in SBC for Family Planning: The Business Case for Investing in SBC for Family Planning uses an evidence-based approach to address the lack of synthesized information on cost\, cost-effectiveness\, and return on investment of SBC programs. It draws on nearly 200 studies assessing SBC effectiveness and/or costs across a range of countries\, looking at both the indirect impact of SBC interventions via intermediate outcomes and the direct impact of SBC interventions on modern contraceptive use. Michelle Weinberger will present the methods used to develop the case study and its conclusions. \nAdvocating for SBC in Family Planning: The SBC in Family Planning Message Framework is intended to help SBC practitioners identify their stakeholder’s motivations and priorities and strategize how to get their support for SBC in family planning. The framework provides guidance on messages to use with stakeholders who may be unaware or skeptical of the benefits of SBC in family planning or have limitations in their ability to include SBC in their portfolio. Uttara Bharath will introduce the message framework\, offer concrete talking points to make the case for investment in SBC\, and describe how the message framework has been adapted in Zambia and Guinea. \nCoordinating SBC Investment and Knowledge in Family Planning: Since the 2018 International SBCC Summit\, senior staff of several donors with substantial investments in SBC have sought to work in closer contact. Perri Sutton will illustrate how donors are working to improve coordination and collaboration for improved and expanded SBC investment in francophone West Africa through the Ouagadougou Partnership. Sohail Agha will talk about the donor database of active SBC investments and discuss how to make programmatic learnings more relevant for SBC investment. \nStrengthening Local Level Investments in SBC in Nepal: The SBC Palika Package used in Nepal helped Breakthrough ACTION strengthen local-level decision making around SBC for health. The package includes step-by-step guidance for SBC programming and explains what can be done to support effective planning\, implementation\, and monitoring of SBC programs and activities\, particularly in federalized or decentralized contexts. As a result of using the SBC Palika Package\, focal municipalities allocated funding for SBC for health in their budgets for the first time ever. Pranab Rajbhandaril will present the process used to implement the package and lessons learned for increasing investment in SBC that can be applied to family planning advocacy efforts.

SUMMARY:Advocating for Increased Male Engagement in Family Planning and Reproductive Health: A Skills-Building Session
DESCRIPTION:Join Breakthrough ACTION on the eve of the Women Deliver 2019 Conference for an afternoon side event: “Advocating for Increased Male Engagement in Family Planning and Reproductive Health: A Skills-Building Session” \nThis hands-on session will give participants the opportunity to use a newly released tool specifically designed to increase implementation of\, and investment in\, male engagement in family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH) programs through advocacy. Engaging men and boys in FP/RH programs has successfully contributed to decreasing unintended pregnancies\, improving maternal health outcomes\, reducing sexually transmitted infections\, and better meeting the needs of youth. However\, decision makers do not always incorporate male engagement into their programs due to personal or political biases\, a lack of technical knowledge\, or fear that male engagement means shifting FP/RH funding or focus away from women and girls. To date\, relevant resources have provided male engagement impact data\, frameworks\, and strategies—but no tool\, until now\, has shown how such resources can be used to create an advocacy action plan that addresses male engagement implementation and investment challenges with decision makers\, head-on. Come try the tool for yourself! \nSpaces are limited—reserve your spot and sign up today.

SUMMARY:Malaria SBC Evidence Discussion: Mobilization and Supportive Supervision
DESCRIPTION:How can research findings inform and improve social and behavior change (SBC) programs? What questions can SBC practitioners keep in mind to help sift through research\, interpret publications\, and apply lessons learned? Join Breakthrough ACTION for the second in a series of online guided discussions following a “journal club” format about malaria SBC evidence on Wednesday\, March 6\, 2019\, from 9:00 a.m. to 10 a.m. (EST). More information about the article and how you can prepare for and participate in the online discussion is found below. \nFeatured presenter \n\nDr. Ashis Das\, Public Health Specialist\, World Bank\n\nAbout the article \nIn the article Strengthening malaria service delivery through supportive supervision and community mobilization in an endemic Indian setting: an evaluation of nested delivery models\, the impact of community mobilization and community mobilization combined with supportive supervision were compared with routine government malaria prevention and control activities. This randomized control study found that both community mobilization and community mobilization combined with supportive supervision improved a number of community preventive and care-seeking behaviors for malaria. \nPreparing for the discussion \nDownload the article and the Discussion Guide\, which has questions to guide your reading and to help you follow along during the online discussion.
