The Learning from Each Other: Facilitating Multisectoral Preparedness and Response in the Francophone West and Central Africa Region case study provides an overview of a virtual forum organized by Breakthrough ACTION to facilitate peer-to-peer learning and capacity building among One Health practitioners in francophone West and Central Africa. The regional learning exchanges focused on multisectoral preparedness and response to public health threats, particularly zoonotic diseases like avian influenza and mpox. This initiative was designed for One Health practitioners and government representatives across multiple sectors (e.g., human health, animal health, and environment) to collaborate on preparedness and response to public health threats, particularly zoonotic diseases.

The regional learning exchanges have:

  • Strengthened multisectoral collaboration across countries to address infectious disease challenges.
  • Provided a platform for peer-to-peer learning, fostering capacity building and knowledge exchange among stakeholders.
  • Promoted the operationalization of the One Health approach, addressed challenges related to disease outbreaks, and integrated human, animal, and environmental health sectors into cohesive response frameworks.
