This job aid is a practical, easy-to-use reference tool developed to guide frontline health workers in Sierra Leone on the appropriate response and care when managing suspected rabies exposure from dog bites. Designed by Breakthrough ACTION Sierra Leone in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, this job aid outlines a clear step-by-step protocol—from wound care to vaccine referral and case reporting—based on global and national best practices. It includes tailored counseling messages on rabies prevention and post-exposure care and reinforces coordination with district health teams and animal health workers. The tool supports the country’s efforts to eliminate dog-mediated human rabies deaths by 2030 and contributes to improved integrated disease surveillance.
