This report and summary brief detail Breakthrough ACTION’s human-centered design (HCD) approach to reducing child, early, and forced marriage (CEFM) in Nepal. The project strengthened the capacity of Nepal’s Madhesh Province to address CEFM through institutional social and behavior change (SBC) support and child protection activities.

The HCD process brought together local government leaders and community members in six municipalities to understand CEFM’s root causes, fostering empathy and inspiring tailored SBC solutions. This community-driven approach led municipalities to invest resources and prioritize initiatives that reduce CEFM.

Designed for SBC practitioners, policymakers, and those in child protection, this resource illustrates how HCD and community engagement can transform local perceptions and drive sustainable behavior change. It provides actionable insights into implementing empathy-driven SBC programming that aligns with community needs for lasting impact.
