Breakthrough ACTION worked with the Ministry of Health and other partners in Malawi from January 2020 through October 2023. The project employed social and behavior change approaches in communication, advocacy, community engagement, and demand generation to reduce child, early and forced marriages as well as increase COVID-19 vaccine uptake and address behaviors related to malaria prevention and care-seeking, particularly as it pertains to family health. The project’s social and behavior change activities helped ignite a social movement to reduce child, early, and forced marriage and partnered with the National Malaria Control Program to develop the National Malaria Communication Strategy and accompanying message guide. Breakthrough ACTION’s close partnership with both national and district government officials ensures Malawi will continue to be able to incorporate social and behavior change into its future public health endeavors.
