In close collaboration with the National Public Health Institutes of Liberia, Breakthrough ACTION Liberia developed a remote training focused on supporting sub-national hygiene initiatives across the country. The remote training, consisting of seven modules, focused on empowering over 600 influential leaders to advocate and generate resources to improve hygiene-related activities in their communities. Breakthrough ACTION Liberia designed the intervention using the Collaborating, Learning, and Adapting approach to add to the leaders’ existing knowledge through compelling stories and testimonials.

Implementing remote training using interactive voice response proved a creative and cost-effective approach to reaching a large, dispersed population across Liberia. The modules improved local leaders’ knowledge, who in turn went on to use what they learned in their work and interactions with others.
