Social and behavior change (SBC) has been used in malaria programs to positively influence behaviors around case management, malaria in pregnancy, insecticide-treated mosquito nets, and indoor residual spraying. The evidence database for the impact of SBC on malaria-related behavioral outcomes is growing and best practices are still being identified. Breakthrough ACTION hosts the Malaria SBC Evidence Database, a repository of hand-picked evidence.
Beyond merely making evidence available, Breakthrough ACTION is also socializing the findings and implications within the larger malaria community to make the case for the prioritization of investment in quality SBC related to malaria. Since 2018, Breakthrough ACTION has facilitated a virtual Malaria SBC Evidence Journal Club. Using web conferencing technology, SBC practitioners from around the globe discuss carefully selected articles about the impact of malaria SBC. Each discussion is recorded and can be found on the Breakthrough ACTION YouTube channel.
